Boilers Repairs & Advice on How To Avoid Meeting The Boiler Breakdown Engineer
Author: Tom Norris

Boiler Repairs (1)1All I want is a boiler that works - is that too much to ask for? Apparently so because if you happen to live in a property where your boiler is more than 5 or 6 years old then it highly likely that your boiler will breakdown or need repairs in the near future.

The fact is that boilers are now built with far more components, built with economy in mind and built with a far shorter lifespan than their ancestors. If any one component breaks down then you have to call the repair man.

It’s the same as everything else in manufacturing. First we learn how to make a product that really works and then we start to make it as cheaply as possible with a far shorter lifespan. That may be great for the economy but it can be an absolute nightmare for the homeowner or the one in charge of ensuring that the heat stays on or that hot water is constantly available.

All boilers breakdown at some point and need a few repairs. Unfortunately when new boilers breakdown its not just a question of replacing a bit of rubber, plastic or metal that costs 50 pence. Far more likely the engineer will tell you that the whole control panel is fried and that you will need a whole new unit that Boiler Repairs (2)costs half the original price of the boiler.

The reality is that if you have to call for boiler repairs it’s going to hurt financially as the average repair bill is going to be away over a 100 or so and depending on your boiler or the actual problem you may be facing far higher costs to rectify the problem. Even worse if the boiler has broken down a few times already as you are now in a position where you are unsure if you should be spending more money on further boiler repairs or opting for a new boiler installation.

Of course all this headache could be avoided in most cases if only you were smart enough to ensure that:

Even if you install a new boiler it is highly likely that it will breakdown within 5 years so why wait until it breaks down and costs you a fortune before you get some cover. Far better to get the cover in place before the boiler actually breaks down.

In general, boilers parts are covered by the manufacturer for a  year or two but what happens then? Like anything else you buy it becomes your responsibility and it’s up to you to ensure that when you do need to call for boiler repairs you’re not in the chair for the repair costs.
